Privacy policy
LowBatteryTown ("we") is an anonymous one-to-one chat with no sign-up. This page explains what we handle, why, and for how long.
What we don't ask for
- There is no account. We don't collect your real name, e-mail, phone number or social handles; we only receive an e-mail address if you choose to leave one in the feedback box.
- Please don't share anything that identifies you. Links, e-mail addresses, @handles and phone numbers are masked automatically before a message is sent.
What we handle
- Anonymous guest code: issued to your browser when you enter, kept in the browser's localStorage and valid for 24 hours, so a refresh or dropped connection can rejoin your chat.
- Nickname, social battery and chat intent: shown to the person you are paired with.
- Messages and pairing profiles: temporarily stored during an active chat for reconnects. When either person leaves, the session expires or the reconnect window runs out, they are immediately deleted from application chat storage and cleared from browsers that receive the end event. Reports cannot be submitted after the chat ends.
- IP address: used only for abuse rate limits, as short-lived counters (about an hour at most), never stored with chat content.
- Reports: when someone reports a chat we keep that conversation, both nicknames/batteries/intents, the reason and any note for safety review, and delete them after 180 days.
- Feedback box: the type, message, page and language you send from, and the reply e-mail if you choose to leave one. Used to improve the town and answer you; stored in our database and copied to the operator's Google Sheet (hosted by Google), and deleted after 30 days.
- Technical logs: server error and access logs (which may include IP and time) for operations and debugging.
- Usage statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count anonymous browsing statistics, such as page views and loading speed. It sets no cookies, does not follow you across other sites and builds no personal profile.
- Waiting alerts and chats with the operator: when someone has waited a while to be paired, the operator's phone gets a notice (via Telegram or Discord) with only the battery and chat intent they chose and how many seconds they have waited — no nickname, guest code, IP or message. The operator may then send you a chat invitation themselves; it always asks first, you can keep waiting for someone else, and you can leave any time after accepting.
- Safety review: an anonymous guest code can be suspended from matching for 24 hours or 7 days after report review. Restrictions expire; reasons, durations and revocation history are retained with report evidence for 180 days. No device fingerprint or real-identity profile is created.
Paid scene (koi pond)
- When you buy, Buy Me a Coffee handles your name, e-mail and payment details. The operator uses your e-mail only to send the unlock code, handle refunds and answer you; that correspondence stays in the operator's mailbox.
- Our database keeps only a hash of each code, its first four characters, the operator's note (such as a transaction ID), how many devices used it and when it was last used, never your e-mail or payment details. We keep this while the code is valid, to check that unlocks still hold.
- Once unlocked, your browser keeps a signed unlock token in localStorage (no personal data) and asks the server about once a day whether it still holds; clearing your browser data deletes it.
Why
To pair people and relay chats, to prevent abuse and handle reports, to answer feedback, and to keep the service running. We don't sell data or use chats for advertising.
Where it lives
Cloudflare provides computing and data storage; feedback copies are stored in the operator’s Google Sheet. Data may be processed outside Taiwan. Deletion above refers to application chat storage. Infrastructure backup or recovery systems may have separate retention periods; deletion does not mean all technical records disappear at the same instant.
Your rights
Under Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act you may ask to access, correct or delete your data. Because the service is anonymous we usually can't tell who you are; include the approximate time and your nickname when you write and we'll do our best.
Age
During the beta the town is for people aged 18 and over.
Changes
We'll post material changes on this page and update the effective date.
