Is Anonymous Chat Safe? Six Things to Know Before Talking to Strangers

Anonymity makes it easier to say what you really feel, but you also don’t know who is on the other side. These six points apply to any anonymous or stranger chat site, with notes on how LowBatteryTown handles each.

1. Don’t share details that identify you

Your name, phone number, address, school or workplace, social accounts and photos can all lead someone to you. LowBatteryTown masks links, e-mail addresses, @handles and phone numbers in messages on the server, but the best protection is not to share them at all.

2. Pause if someone hurries you to another platform

Being asked within minutes to add another messaging app, click a link, video call or send photos deserves a second thought. You can say no without explaining.

3. Leave when you are uncomfortable

You don’t owe a stranger a conversation. In the town you can say good night and leave at any moment, no reason needed.

4. Report harassment

Reporting during a chat ends it immediately, keeps that transcript for 180 days for review, and stops the two of you from being paired again for 24 hours.

5. Anonymous does not mean nothing is kept

When an ordinary chat ends, the town deletes its messages and pairing details, but no website can reliably stop the other person taking screenshots or photos. Only say what you would be fine with someone seeing.

6. A chat site is not counselling or emergency help

For someone to listen, find a local helpline at findahelpline.com; in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. The LowBatteryTown beta is for people aged 18 or older.
